  • Description

totalCAST Clear Art Resin is a revolutionary hybrid polymer that produces an optically clear, high gloss finish for coating artwork and for creating jewellery.

totalCAST Art Resin has been ASTM certified. UV Resistance: totalCAST utilises hybrid technology to inhibit yellowing.

This epoxy resin system is ideal for coating and sealing artwork on canvas, wood, MDF, glass, perspex, concrete, metals etc. The product can be applied by pouring, brush or roller. The excellent clarity and optical transparency makes the resin not only ideal for the protection and decoration of paintings, sculptures & collages, photos & prints, wood & timber artefacts (clocks and puzzles etc), but also for creating pendants, bangles & other jewellery items, flower setting and paperweights.

This formulation represents cutting edge polymeric technology and was developed to offer unrivalled user friendliness and a crystal clear result every time. Please be advised although our resins are U.V stabilised this does not mean they are U.V proof. Ultimately all our clear epoxy resins will show signs of U.V degradation over time. We work constantly to improve the U.V protection however resins are plastics and over time the sun will always win that battle.

The totalCAST range contains a quick and easy mix pack for single use application. The one use 200g TwinPack sachets are designed for the resin art novice who wants a quick & easy solution for their first resin adventure, or for the experienced user who has a small requirement.

    Key advantages:

    • 1:1 mixing ratio by volume or weight
    • Non toxic and VOC free
    • Can be partnered with Aqua Cast Eco resin when casting in a mould, see pouring guidelines below
    • Odour free and solvent free
    • Built in air release agents and moisture scavengers
    • UV Stable, no need for HALS or UV blockers

    Pack Sizes

totalCAST comes in 7 pack sizes so you can buy exactly the right amount for your project. To help you choose the correct kit please see the coverage guide below, then make your selection from the drop down list above. The exact coverage will depend on how thick you want your resin coating and the type of media you are covering.

Please note this resin has a heat distortion temperature of 45-50°C which makes it unsuitable for the placement of very hot objects on its surface such as cups, mugs, plates etc. We recommend UltraCast xt  for excellent temperature resistance.

Differences between totalCAST and MasterCast 1-2-1:

    • Mixed viscosity: totalCAST has a lower mixed viscosity and a thinner consistency than MasterCast
    • Curing time:  totalCAST cures in half the time (3-4hrs), MasterCast offers a longer working time

Both can be used for clear coating over existing artwork made with oil paints, acrylics, enamels, watercolours etc, but Mastercast 1-2-1 is better suited to pigmenting in resin art applications. totalCAST is ideal for pouring in moulds for embedding, potting, encapsulating and jewellery production.

  • Used For & How To Use

    Mixing

The mixing ratio must be accurately followed to achieve perfect results. It is not possible to change the ratio which would result in the resin not drying properly and lower mechanical properties.

The mixed components should be thoroughly stirred for 3-4 minutes to ensure an even consistency. Epoxy systems tend to heat up in a pot than as a thin film, only mix the amount needed for use within the pot life of the product.

    Application

The product can be applied by pouring from the mixing vessel, by brush or roller. The mixed resin can be tinted with our resi-TINT pigments, resi-METAL or resi-TINT+ Metallic Powders to make your artwork pop. resi-BLAST will add stunning cells and effects.

Pouring guidelines for mixing art resin and Aqua Cast

When pouring Aqua Cast onto previously poured resin, please ensure the resin has entered the gel phase but is not yet touch dry to allow the aqua cast to adhere. This will vary depending upon depth and size of the mould. If you think you have missed the gel window, wait for the resin to dry, and thoroughly abrade to create a key before pouring Aqua Cast.

When pouring resin onto Aqua Cast the time between pours is not as important as the resin will adhere to most surfaces. Wait until it is visibly dry, normally 1-2 hours before pouring the resin. It is recommended to carry out the resin pour within 24 hours.

    Health & Safety

Our resins are 100% synthetic, they DO NOT contain animal parts or any organic content.
No testing is done on animals whatsoever. Our resins are Vegan friendly and cruelty free.

Although our resins are formulated with the most modern and safest epoxy chemicals available, all epoxy resins are chemicals and should be managed and handled with proactive safety hygiene and responsible care.

    • Always wear nitrile gloves (or use a specialist resin barrier cream)
    • Wear a respirator when sanding partially-cured resin
    • It is advisable to work in a well ventilated room
    • We advise the use of safety goggles
    • Avoid skin contact (if resin gets on skin wash with plenty of soap & water)
    • DO NOT eat, drink or smoke while working
    • In case of eye contamination wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes and consult medical advice immediately

Adding inks/paints/mica powder/glitter to epoxy resin will change its properties. If you use alcohol inks DO NOT use a flame to remove bubbles, as alcohol is flammable.
